Frequently Asked Questions

What do I do if my student forgot something?

If your student forgot an item or lunch, please drop it off in the main office. To avoid classroom interruption, the office will call and leave a message in the teachers voicemail and your student will be sent to the office.

How do I inform the school when my student is absent?

When your child is absent, please call the attendance hotline (858) 538-2094 or email the attendance at [email protected].

What if my student is tardy?

All students are considered tardy if they are not in their classroom at 8:45 am. Remember that you may drop off your child as early as 8:20 am. Please plan accordingly due to heavy traffic in the morning.

If your student is arriving late, please be sure to send them through the office for tardy verification before they go to the classroom. All late arrivals are indicated as an unexcused tardy unless you indicate the reason he/she is tardy. Parents may call or email [email protected] to report the reason for late arrival.

It is also important to please call the Attendance Hotline at 858-538-2094 or email [email protected] if your student will not be arriving before 8:30am.

If tardy due to a doctor appointment, please request a doctor’s note and provide to the office at check-in.
Medical Notes: When your student misses any amount of school for a doctor/dentist appointment, it is beneficial to his/her attendance record to bring an official medical note to the attendance desk. Any all-day absence excused by a medical note does not count toward your student’s absence total.

Please remember – Tardy students walking into class impacts the learning environment for everyone.  Please be on time.

What are OCIS Contracts?

Should there be a planned absence of five days or more please see the front office staff as soon as possible to set up a homework contract for the student. A contract should also be used for extended illnesses.  A minimum of one week is required to set up an OCIS Contract.

How late can my student remain on campus after school?

It is important that students are picked up before 2:20 pm Monday- Friday as there is no supervision after-school. When it is not possible for you to pick up your student before this time, please note that ESS (Extended School Services) is available for a charge, from 6:30 am – 6:00 pm.

Where are the lost and found items kept on campus?

If your student has lost a sweatshirt/jacket or any other item, CVES lost and found is located next to the custodian’s office by the entrance to the Multi-Purpose Room.  Please be sure to check periodically, as the lost and found items are donated periodically.

What if I want to talk to my student’s teacher?

During school hours, email is the best way to contact your teacher.  If you have trouble reaching the teacher, you may contact the school office to relay a message for you.

What if I want to request homework for my student?

Our official policy regarding homework can be found here at Homework.  If you would like homework for a student that missed school, please contact the teacher by leaving them a message or e-mailing them your request.
