Frequently Asked Questions
What do I do if my student forgot something?
How do I inform the school when my student is absent?
What if my student is tardy?
All students are considered tardy if they are not in their seats, ready to learn by 8:45. Campus gates close at 8:45 a.m. sharp. Students arriving after that time must enter through the office and will be marked tardy. Remember that you may drop off your child as early as 8:20 am. Please plan accordingly due to heavy traffic in the morning.
If your student is arriving late, please be sure to send them through the office for tardy verification before they go to the classroom. All late arrivals are indicated as an unexcused tardy unless you indicate the reason he/she is tardy. Parents may call or email [email protected] to report the reason for late arrival.
It is also important to please call the Attendance Hotline at 858-538-2094 or email [email protected] if your student will not be arriving before 8:30am.
If your child is tardy due to a doctor appointment, please request a doctor’s note and provide to the office at check-in.
Medical Notes: When your student misses any amount of school for a doctor/dentist appointment, it is beneficial to his/her attendance record to bring an official medical note to the attendance. Any all-day absence excused by a medical note still counts toward your student’s absence total.
Please remember – Tardy students walking into class impacts the learning environment for everyone. Please be on time.
What are OCIS Contracts?
For planned absences three days or more, please contact the school office to request an OCIS contract. This allows your child to receive attendance credit and assignments during the time they are out. Please see the front office staff as soon as possible to set up a homework contract for the student. Students can have up to 14 days per school year of OCIS contracts. We request at least one week to set up an OCIS Contract, but can generally make accommodations for quicker turn around in case advanced notice is not possible.
