Dear Canyon View Elementary School Families,

We hope you are enjoying every minute of summer with your loved ones. Can you believe that the first day of school is almost here? We look forward to seeing you all very soon! Below you will find some important details to help you prepare for the new school year.

Canyon View Parent and Student Handbook

While this letter gives some general information to start the year, the Canyon View Elementary School Parent and Student Handbook is available on our school website and has more detailed information about our campus. We are going to ask all students and their parents to sign the Coyote Pledge on the last page of the handbook and return it to their teacher. Copies of the Coyote Pledge will be sent home with every student the first week of school.

Before School Supervision

The Campus opens at 8:20 a.m. for students. No supervision will be provided before 8:20 a.m. so students should not arrive at school before this time. The cafeteria and blacktop will be open to students in the morning beginning at 8:20 a.m. Once students enter campus, they may not leave unless a parent or other authorized person comes to the office to sign them out. To ensure the safety of our children, you will be required to show identification when you pick up your child.

School Breakfast / Lunch

PUSD provides breakfast and lunch to all students free of charge pursuant to the California Universal Meals Program.  Free meals are available to all families, regardless of their free or reduced-price meal eligibility status. Breakfast service will begin at 8:20 a.m. and end at 8:35 a.m. Students will report directly to the playground after eating breakfast.

Meal program details are provided on the Food and Nutrition Department website at https://powayusdnutrition.com/. Families are still encouraged to submit a school meal application for free and reduced-priced meal benefits because this information may be used for other programs such as Federal and State funding for your school, reduced registration fees for academic tests, free or discounted fees for bus passes, ESS childcare, and athletic programs, discounted rates for internet service and many more!  The application can be found online at https://www.myschoolapps.com/ . Applications must be submitted on an annual basis.

Medication at School

If your child requires medication at school, the “Authorization for Medication Administration”  form must be completed and signed by a CA physician and parents.  The form can be located per the link below.  All medication must be provided in the original container along with the completed medical form by an adult to the school site on or after the first day of school.  This form is required for all prescription and over the counter medications including but not limited to supplements, cough drops, inhalers, pain medications, etc.  If your child needs to self-carry a medication, please contact the school site health technician for guidance.

Parking Lot Drop Off - 8:20 a.m.

When dropping off and picking up students in the parking circle please drive all the way around the outer edge of the circle then pull all the way forward to drop off/pick up your child at the curb. Do not let your child out of the car until you are stopped at the edge of the curb. Never leave your car unattended in the loading zone. If you need to enter the school campus for any reason, please park your car in a designated space in the lot or on the street.

Students can be dropped off as early as 8:20 a.m. Please take advantage of this if you are worried about traffic. They may walk to the back playground and wait for their teacher to pick them up.

School Gates close promptly at 8:45 a.m. All students arriving after that time must enter through the office and will be marked tardy.

Please refrain from using the crosswalk in the morning whenever possible. If you walk your child, use the perimeter sidewalks and walk around the parking lot. Drop them off at the designated walker areas. Please refrain from congregating in front of the school to allow our arrival process to flow smoothly, and safely. Adults are not permitted beyond the gates unless they sign in with the main office.

Parking Lot Pick Up - 2:45 p.m.

ONLY TK/Kindergarten parents may park in the parking lot to pick up their child outside of the main gates. Please look out for details from your child’s teacher regarding this process. If your TK/Kindergartener has a sibling, pick up your TK/Kindergartener and wait for siblings near the main gates.

All other students in Grades 1-5 must be picked up using our carpool pick up lane. Please have your student practice buckling and unbuckling seat belts before school starts. All students must be picked up/dropped off using the passenger side closest to the curb. Walkers may walk home using the perimeter sidewalks.

Please refrain from parking on Adolphia Street for the safety of our students.

Extended Student Services (ESS):

Canyon View provides an ESS program, which is a fee-based before and after school childcare program. A student's enrollment at an elementary school does not guarantee them ESS enrollment.  All students wishing to participate in ESS must be registered through the PUSD ESS department. Please access the Canyon View ESS for enrollment instructions and fees.
